Individual Therapy

One-on-one, evidence-based care for adolescents, young adults, and adults — in La Jolla and across California.

All of our clinicians at Opal Psychological provide individual therapy using evidence-based modalities, tailored to what each client actually needs. Sessions are available in person in La Jolla or virtually across California.

What Is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy is dedicated one-on-one time with a licensed psychologist — space to work through what's weighing on you, even without the words for it yet. It's the foundation of care at Opal and the starting point for most clients.

What to Expect

Sessions are typically 50–60 minutes, once a week, though frequency can flex up or down based on your needs. Your first session is an intake interview, where your provider gets to know your history and goals and builds a personalized treatment plan around you.

Our Approach

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identifying the thought patterns driving distress and building more flexible, realistic ways of responding to them.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Learning to hold difficult thoughts and feelings without letting them dictate your choices or shrink your life.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Building concrete skills for tolerating distress and regulating intense emotion in the moment.

Mind-Body & Somatic Approaches

Reconnecting with the body's own signals as part of processing and healing — not just talking things through.

Who We Work With

Our providers work with adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating anxiety, mood concerns, disordered eating, sleep difficulties, chronic illness, and the performance pressure that comes with a high-achieving life — along with the everyday, harder-to-name struggles that don't fit neatly into a category.
