Anxiety Therapy

Personalized, evidence-based care for anxiety in adolescents and adults — in La Jolla and across California.

Opal Psychological offers anxiety therapy in La Jolla for adolescents and adults, provided by Dr. Ladera Linn, Dr. Alina Mraz, and Dr. Kai Chuang. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mind-body, somatic, and exposure-based techniques, our team tailors treatment to each client based on an initial intake interview. In-person sessions are available in La Jolla, with virtual therapy offered across California.

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety shows up differently for everyone — generalized worry, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety, or the tightness of a nervous system that hasn't had a chance to settle. Because it takes so many forms, there isn't one right way to treat it.

That's why we don't start with a fixed protocol. We start with an intake interview — getting to know you, what your anxiety actually feels like day to day, and what's already been tried — before recommending the combination of approaches most likely to help.

Our Approach

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identifying the thought patterns that feed anxiety and building more flexible, realistic ways of responding to them.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Learning to hold anxious thoughts and feelings without letting them dictate your choices or shrink your life.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Building concrete skills for tolerating distress and regulating intense emotion in the moment.

Mind-Body, Somatic & Exposure-Based Work

Reconnecting with the body's own signals and gradually facing feared situations in a paced, supported way.

Meet the Providers Who Treat Anxiety

Dr. Ladera Linn, PsyD

Works with adults

Dr. Linn brings a culturally grounded, identity-affirming lens to her work with anxiety — understanding each client within their family, culture, and lived experience before anything else. Her clinical background includes time at the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, where she worked in inpatient hospitalization, giving her a steady, clinically grounded perspective on anxiety at every level of severity.

Dr. Alina Mraz, PsyD

Works with adolescents through adults

Dr. Mraz completed her APA-accredited internship at Sharp Mesa Vista and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Forensic Assessment Institute of Southern California — experience in higher-acuity hospital settings that shows up as steadiness, whatever a client is carrying. She works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety alongside mood concerns, ADHD, and major life transitions.

Dr. Kai Chuang, PsyD

Works with adolescents through adults

In addition to his work with athletes and high performers, Dr. Chuang's training includes care across outpatient clinics and residential treatment programs at Marin County Health & Human Services, supporting individuals with complex psychiatric and psychosocial needs. He works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, including performance-related anxiety and stress.
