Eating and Body Image Concerns Can Take Different Forms.
Eating disorders and body-image difficulties are complex experiences that can affect thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and physical health. They may not be visible from a person’s appearance, and experiences differ from person to person. These descriptions are not diagnostic criteria.
Distress Around Eating
Anxiety, shame, or significant emotional distress related to food and eating.
Binge Eating Experiences
Episodes of eating accompanied by a sense of loss of control or distress.
Compensatory Behaviors
Behaviors intended to counteract eating that may create serious physical health risks.
Body Image Concerns
Persistent dissatisfaction or distress related to body image.
Appearance-Related Preoccupation
Significant concern about perceived appearance flaws, including experiences that may occur with body dysmorphic disorder, a separate diagnosis.
Impact on Everyday Life
Avoidance, emotional distress, or difficulty with relationships, concentration, and daily routines.
An individualized evaluation can help determine what type and level of support may be appropriate.
Thoughtful Care That Considers the Whole Person.
OPAL’s approach considers emotional experiences, patterns of thinking and behavior, relationships, identity, and broader health factors. Treatment is tailored to the individual and their clinical needs.

Evidence-Informed Therapy
Clinically appropriate psychological approaches, which may include CBT-based eating-disorder interventions, depending on your needs and Dr. Linn’s current training.
Body Image & Emotional Well-Being

Coordinated Support When Appropriate
Treatment may involve collaboration with medical professionals, registered dietitians, psychiatrists, or specialized programs.
Treatment boundaries. OPAL is a psychological group practice, not an eating-disorder treatment center. Outpatient therapy is not appropriate or sufficient for everyone, does not replace medical care, and cannot promise specific outcomes.

Dr. Linn is trained in Health Psychology and specializes in behavioral medicine. She brings that perspective to her work with adults navigating eating disorders, self-esteem, and body-image concerns, including body dysmorphia. Her approach considers the connection between physical and emotional well-being, along with the cultural, relational, and personal experiences that shape each life. Her work draws on evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, DBT, and mindfulness. Through culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care, she works collaboratively with clients to develop an appropriate approach to treatment.
Questions About Eating Disorder Therapy?
Do I need an eating disorder diagnosis to ask about therapy?
No. People may seek professional support for eating-related distress or body-image concerns whether or not they have a formal diagnosis. A qualified clinician can help explore what type of evaluation or care may be appropriate.
Can eating disorder therapy involve other healthcare professionals?
Yes. Depending on the situation, eating-disorder treatment may involve collaboration among psychological, medical, nutritional, and psychiatric professionals. Some people need specialized treatment programs or a higher level of care. Dr. Linn does not provide medical monitoring, dietetic care, or medication management.
Does OPAL offer eating disorder therapy in person and online?
OPAL offers in-person psychological services in La Jolla and virtual options for eligible clients located in California. Suitability, clinician availability, and the need for medical monitoring are considered individually.
A Thoughtful Next Step Begins With Understanding Your Needs.
If you are exploring support for eating-related or body-image concerns, an initial conversation can help clarify OPAL’s available services, clinician availability, and whether outpatient psychological care may be appropriate.

Learn About Individual Therapy
Urgent support. Eating disorders can involve serious medical complications. If you are experiencing urgent physical symptoms or immediate safety concerns, seek emergency medical evaluation rather than waiting for an online consultation response. In the U.S., call 911 for immediate danger, or call or text 988 for a suicide or mental health crisis. OPAL does not operate a 24-hour emergency service.
