Dr. Kai Chuang, Psy.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who works with adults and adolescents navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship concerns, identity development, self-doubt, and major life transitions. He has particular experience working with Division I and professional athletes, as well as other high-functioning individuals and professionals navigating high-pressure environments, significant expectations, and the demands that often come with achievement and performance.

Dr. Kai approaches mental health from a human-first, skills-based, and non-pathologizing perspective. He believes that struggling emotionally does not always mean that something is “wrong” with us. Sometimes, difficult life experiences reveal that we simply have not yet developed the skills, tools, resources, or perspective needed to navigate what we are going through. For many people, no one ever taught them how to identify and understand their emotions, separate thoughts from feelings, cope with distress, or remain flexible when life becomes difficult. Much of his work therefore focuses on building emotional literacy, psychological flexibility, and psychological agility.

His clinical approach is integrative and grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and trauma-informed care. Dr. Kai balances warmth and compassion with honest, direct support, helping clients better understand themselves while also developing practical skills they can use outside of therapy.

At the heart of his work is the belief that people deserve the opportunity to live a life that feels authentically their own. Many of us learn to wear different masks—trying to meet expectations, avoid disappointing others, perform, achieve, or become who we think we are supposed to be. Therapy can be a place to better understand those patterns, reconnect with who you are, and develop greater authorship over your own story. Above all, Dr. Kai strives to create a space where clients can show up as real human beings—without judgment, without needing to have everything figured out, and without having to pretend that everything is okay
